Top Aichi high school wrestling club members suspended for bullying
The Mainichi Shimbun TOYOAKE, Aichi -- Four members of a top high school wrestling club have been punished for repeatedly assaulting younger club members, it emerged Saturday. Private Seijo High School in Toyoake suspended the four -- two second-year and two third-year students -- from attending school after deeming their actions constituted bullying. Nevertheless, the school failed to report the issue to local authorities, and allowed the team to participate in a national athletic meet in October. The four threw four second- and first-year members around, and forced them to sit on their knees for extended periods during practices. Sometime around June, one of them choked a first-year member with a towel and a T-shirt on several occasions, forcing the victim to lose consciousness at least three times. They also forced a first-year member to spank a second-year member's buttocks with a bamboo sword in September. Seijo High School's wrestling club is one of the top high school wrestling clubs in the country. (Mainichi Japan) December 22, 2007 |
