ISAHAYA, Nagasaki -- A high school boy committed suicide here at the weekend, hanging himself from a stairway railing on a public road, according to police.

At around 5:20 a.m. on Sunday, a passer-by found the boy's body hanging from the railing near a municipal road in Isahaya, and alerted local police.

Officers confirmed him dead and identified him as a 16-year-old student at a prefectural high school in the Nagasaki Prefecture city of Omura and resident of Isahaya. His bicycle was found nearby.

The boy came home at around 9 p.m. on Saturday after completing his club activities at his school, then went out, according to investigators. No suicide note has so far been found.
