AKITA--The 13-year-old girl who was found hanged at her school Friday was called out of a classroom and admonished earlier in the day over a malicious text message she sent to a schoolmate the day before, according to sources.

The first-year student was found hanged with the scarf of her school uniform in a toilet of Tenno Minami Middle School in Katagami, Akita Prefecture, in the evening, in an apparent suicide.

According to the school, the girl sent the text message to the other girl at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday. The other girl is in a different class, but once belonged to the same school club as the girl who committed suicide.

The father of the girl who received the e-mail message called the school at about 8 a.m. Friday to inform the school of the e-mail, saying his daughter had been upset by it.

AKITA--A female first-year middle school student was found hanged in a toilet of Tenno Minami Middle School in Katagami, Akita Prefecture, on Friday, in an apparent suicide, police said.

A suicide note was found in the toilet in which the girl blamed herself for sending defamatory e-mail messages about another female student.

The girl, 13, was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to a hospital. Schoolteachers discovered her in the toilet on the second floor at about 6:20 p.m. and called the police.

Officers of Gojome Police Station were questioning teachers, staff members and students over the death.

According to school officials, the father of a female student called the school at about 8 a.m. Friday, complaining that his daughter's feelings had been hurt by the girl's e-mail messages.

Since the girl admitted to the school having e-mailed the messages the previous night, the school called the girl's parents and arranged a meeting with the girl and her parents.

The parents came to the school at about 6 p.m. the same day, but after searching for the girl and using the school's public address system to ask her to come to the meeting, teachers found her in the toilet.

She left behind the note, a sketchbook and a set of pens and pencils.

The girl, said to be well behaved and top of her class, was an executive of the student council, the school officials said.

Schoolgirl found hanged in Akita junior high school toilet

KATAGAMI, Akita -- A 13-year-old girl has committed suicide by hanging herself in a toilet at her junior high school, police said.

Although the girl had having some problems with other children over some mobile phone messages, officials from the Tenno Minami Municipal Junior High School said there was nothing to indicate she had been bullied.

A suicide note was found near the girl's body.

Officials gathered all pupils at the school on Saturday so that principal Masahiro Ichinoseki could explain the situation to them.

Police said the girl's parents had consulted school officials over the problems their daughter had been having over e-mail. The girl was found hanging in the toilets at about 6:20 p.m. on Friday and confirmed dead at an Akita hospital later that night.

Police are currently questioning her relatives, school staff and pupils to determine exactly why the teen took her own life.
