WATARI, Miyagi -- A man has been arrested over a brutal attack on his 3-month-old son that killed the baby boy, police said.

Takaya Sato, 29, a company employee from Yamamoto, Miyagi Prefecture, was arrested for inflicting bodily injury resulting in the death of his son, Ryuki.

Sato admits to the allegations.

Police said Sato punched Ryuki in the stomach at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, causing an abdominal hemorrhage that claimed the baby boy's life about three hours later.

Sato lives with his wife and their 1-year-old daughter. After allegedly attacking Ryuki, Sato realized there was something wrong with his son. He took the baby in his car with the intention of taking him to the hospital, but along the way called for an ambulance to collect the boy.

Doctors who saw the baby were suspicious about the circumstances surrounding Ryuki's death and alerted the police.
