Yasuhiro Sawada, 31, a physical education teacher at Gyoda Municipal Ota Junior High School, stands accused of violating the Law Punishing Acts Related to Child Prostitution and Child Pornography.

Investigators have also confiscated dozens of pieces of girls' underwear from his home, sparking an investigation on suspicion of violating a Saitama prefectural ordinance on the wholesome education of youths.

He admitted to the allegations during questioning. "I was interested in girls' underwear," he was quoted as telling investigators.

Sawada made the 16-year-old girl from Yorii, Saitama Prefecture, photograph obscene photos of herself using her mobile phone camera, and had her send the images to his mobile phone on three occasions in late September 2006, local police allege.

He had got acquainted with her through a mobile phone Web site for selling and buying used underwear.

Sawada was hired as a teacher by the prefectural government in 2003. He is the homeroom teacher of a second-year class and teaches physical education. He also serves as the coach of the school's tennis club.
