ICHINOMIYA, Aichi -- An elderly woman was arrested on Friday for stabbing her grandson, police said.

Chigiku Samizo, 77, an unemployed woman from Ichinomiya, stands accused of attempted murder after stabbing her grandson, who is a part-time worker, at their home.

"I stabbed him because he didn't listen to me," Samizo was quoted as telling police. "My family and I wanted relief from him because he was always asking for money and got violent at home," Samizo told police.

Samizo stabbed her 16-year-old grandson with a knife in the living room of their home where he was sleeping at around 3 a.m. on Friday, local police said. He sustained injuries to his left side and right palm, which will take two weeks to heal.

Samizo was living with her son and his wife and the couple's two children.
