Woman, baby daughter found dead in apparent murder-suicide

ICHIKAWA, Chiba -- A woman and her baby daughter were found dead in an apartment here on Tuesday evening, in what appeared to be a murder suicide, police said.

Police said 29-year-old resident Shinichi Tanaka arrived home at about 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday and found his 34-year-old wife Keiko collapsed in the bathroom, bleeding from the abdomen, and their 6-month-old daughter Amane collapsed in the living room. He made an emergency police call, but both the mother and daughter were confirmed dead.

A suicide note had been left behind, and police suspect that Tanaka's wife killed Amane and then committed suicide.

Investigators said a knife was found next to Keiko Tanaka's body. Amane did not appear to have any external wounds on her body.

Police said that Tanaka's wife had complained of a nervous breakdown due to the stress of child-rearing.

The couple's home was located in a residential area near Myoden Station on the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line.
