Corpse of newborn baby found in bathroom of aviation academy
The Mainichi Shimbun KAI, Yamanashi -- The body of a newborn baby was found in a women's bathroom at an aviation academy here, sparking a police investigation. The body of the baby boy was found by a 70-year-old cleaner at the Japan Aviation Academy in Kai at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Nirasaki Police Station officials are investigating the incident on suspicion of abandonment of a corpse. Investigators said that the baby's corpse was found in a container for waste in a space where cleaning equipment was stored. The body was wrapped in a plastic bag with the placenta still attached. The baby appeared to have died within the past few days. Police planned to conduct an autopsy on the baby's body on Friday. The toilet was used by students participating in club activities, but it could also be used by the public. It was locked at 8 p.m. It remained unclear whether the cleaning container was checked when the toilets were cleaned on Monday. The academy is made up of a vocational school, a high school and a junior high school. (Mainichi Japan) June 6, 2008 Newborn baby's body found in bin in toilet at aviation academy in Yamanashi
Japan Today YAMANASHI — The body of a newborn baby boy was found on Thursday afternoon in a trash bin in a women’s toilet at the Japan Aviation Academy in Kofu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. According to police, the body, placed in a plastic bag, was found by a 70-year-old female cleaner around 1:30 p.m. She told police she had last cleaned the toilet on Monday. A spokesperson for the academy said the toilets are accessible by anyone from outside the academy. Shigeo Umezawa, president of the academy said, “We haven’t yet confirmed if one of our students might have been pregnant. It looks like someone gave birth to the baby in the toilet. If she couldn’t afford to raise the child, she could have consulted me because I would have been willing to adopt him.” |
