Teacher hits 83 students on head for being late
The Yomiuri Shimbun MATSUYAMA--A 41-year-old teacher at a municipal middle school in Uwajima, Ehime Prefecture, punched on the head 83 second-year students who had been late for an assembly about good behavior, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned. Seven students were found to have a bump on their heads after the incident, and the teacher later apologized to the parents, the school said. The teacher became angry with the students because they arrived seven minutes late to the assembly on July 3. He made the students sit on the floor and then hit them one by one. Six other teachers present failed to stop him. "The teacher is passionate about teaching," the school's headmaster said. "I'm very sorry the students were hurt. I'll take preventive measures."
