Teacher suspended for slapping 9-year-old girl
The Yomiuri Shimbun The Hyogo Prefectural Board of Education on Tuesday suspended a 31-year-old primary school teacher for three months for using corporal punishment on a nine-year-old female student. Tadahiko Suga, a teacher at Hanada Primary School in Himeji in the prefecture, slapped the fourth grader repeatedly in the face, according to the education board. The girl did not want to return to the school after the incident, and has transferred to a different school, the board said. According to the board, Suga became angry on May 30 when the girl did not finish her lunch. He slapped both sides of her face, yelled at her, took her desk and bag out of the classroom and told her to stand in the hall while he taught the class. Suga later scolded the girl for half an hour because she would not stop crying, the education board said. (Aug. 6, 2008) |
