Two high school students and a 17-year-old unemployed youth of Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, were arrested Sunday on suspicion of assaulting four middle school students with steel bars and other weapons, police said.

According to the police, the three told the third-graders, who attend the middle school from which the suspects graduated, to meet them at a community center in the city that day, where they assaulted them from 5:30 p.m. to 7:50 p.m., apparently accusing them of being "impertinent."

The middle school students were hospitalized for broken facial bones and other injuries.

SAGAMIHARA, Kanagawa -- Two high school students and another teenager were arrested for attacking four junior high school students for more than two hours, leaving the victims seriously injured, police said.

The two high school students, aged 18 and 16, and the third boy, 17, summoned the four junior high school boys to a sports field owned by a local company in Sagamihara at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The three older boys hit and kicked the younger students for about 140 minutes at the field. The younger students suffered broken bones, police said. The three boys stand accused of inflicting injury.

The three attackers are graduates of a junior high school where the four younger students attend.

"We hit them because they have recently become cheeky," one of the arrested boys was quoted as saying. (Mainichi)
