On the morning of the April 8, 2007, in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, a 25 year old father abducted his 5 year old oldest son who he was living separately from.  According to police, he met his ex-wife at a shopping center, then while she was in a store and took her eyes off their son for a moment, he put him into a car and took him.  The ex-wife immediately called the police and the father was apprehended without incident 7 hours later and 10 miles away on the east Kanto Highway.  The father is quoted as saying "I took my son, but that's not a crime."  Police are investigating for motives.
