Court rejects compensation claim filed by parents of boy who was beaten to death
The Mainichi Shimbun MITO -- The Mito District Court on Wednesday rejected a compensation lawsuit filed by the parents of a 14-year-old boy who was beaten to death by a fellow student, saying the police investigation into the case was legal. The parents of schoolboy Satoshi Okazaki, who died in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, in 1998 after being hit by another student, filed a lawsuit against the prefectural and central government, saying that an unfair investigation by Ibaraki Prefectural Police and the Mito District Public Prosecutors Office had caused them mental distress. The couple had demanded 10 million yen in damages, but the court rejected their claim. "The investigation was performed legally," the court's presiding judge said in handing down the ruling against the parents. (Mainichi) September 26, 2007 |
