Regulations for Internet dating sites to be strengthened
Japan Today TOKYO — The government is planning to revise the current law regulating access by minors to online dating websites in a bid to curb child prostitution, according to the government's draft proposals to counter potentially harmful websites. The proposals also include promoting education to enable children to appropriately determine which sites are harmful, according to the draft. Under the revised law on dating websites, operators of such sites would be required to check users' ages more strictly by asking them to send copies of their driving licenses or health insurance cards. Given that more than 96% of the victims who suffered crimes connected to dating websites accessed the sites via mobile phone, the government will also propose implementing filtering systems to block access via cellphones. © 2007 Kyodo News.
