Saitama woman arrested for beating daughter, 15, over cell phone bill
Japan Today KUMAGAYA — Police on Thursday arrested a woman for allegedly beating her 15-year-old daughter on Tuesday night after arguing over the girl's cell phone bill. The daughter reported the case to a local police box on Wednesday. Police allege that Kanae Yokoyama, 36, grabbed her daughter's hair and slammed her face against the floor, causing minor facial injuries. Yokoyama told police that she lost her temper because her daughter had been running up a cell phone bill of more than 100,000 yen each month. "I had banned her from using the phone, but she used it behind my back," Yokoyama was quoted as saying. According to police, the daughter has reported her mother's abuse to a local child consultation center on more than one occasion since summer. Police believe Yokoyama was abusing her daughter on almost a daily basis. |
