HIMEJI, Hyogo -- A mother fatally gassed herself and her two young sons in a car at a parking lot here over the weekend, police said.

The bodies of the 26-year-old mother and her two boys, aged 5 and 4, were discovered in a compact car with a hose leading from the exhaust pipe to the driver's seat window, suggesting the part-time worker had gassed her family with poisonous carbon monoxide fumes.

An investigation into the case continues.

KOBE — A 26-year-old woman and her two small sons, aged 4 and 5, were found unconscious in a car in a parking lot in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, by the woman's father Saturday morning, police said. They were rushed to hospital by ambulance after the man found the car with the three inside at around 7:15 a.m., but were confirmed dead. Police said the three bore no noticeable external injuries.

Police identified the three as Kana Kubara, a part-time employee who lived nearby, and her sons Raira, 5, and Reon, 4. Kubara's family were looking for the three after they did not come home Friday, according to police. A hose was left near the car and could have been used to fill it with exhaust, according to police.
