Just a query, If I have a Japanese dad and Filipino Mom, and I am currently 22y/o, is there a possibility that I can acquire a japanese nationality or citizenship even if my dad and mom are divorced already? I am carrying my dad’s family name though and currently I am a Filipino Citizen.

Yes, I think the marriage would be recognised in Japan if a) it was registered at the city office in Japan where the wife and child live, and b) the husband’s name was entered in her koseki family register. Plus, if one marriage partner lives in Japan, then the Japanese court has jurisdiction over their family matters.

I am looking for koseki for Ichitaro Kamibayashiyama. He was born on 2 March 1867 in Kagoshima-Ken, Japan. he arrived in Hawaii on 25 June 1892 and eventually settled on the island of Kauai. Can you provide any information regarding the non-relative (or non-citizen) access to koseki of a deceased person ? I am looking for information on one Kondo-Kawase Tsuneko, daughter of Kondo-Kawase Kagijiro who was born in Gifu on March 1st 1893. The research is of personal nature, and all and any information will be retained in personal collection.
