CRN Japan Mailing List Guidelines

Version 1.8

Welcome to the CRN Japan Discussion Group. By joining this group or by posting an email to this group, you agree to the following:

General Atmosphere

  1. We welcome anyone to this list, regardless of gender, nationality, or marital status. Even non-parents are welcome. This means that both men and women, Japanese and non-Japanese, and married and unmarried parents will likely be discussing very emotional and often controversial topics together.
  2. We are all fighting a battle for children's rights, together.  In the words of one member, "It takes open-mindedness, slow-to-judge temperament, unbiased/un-prejudicial attitude, logic, and, most of all, compassion, to fight a battle." Please try to practice these qualities in your postings.
  3. As our name clearly indicates, we are a children's rights group. Our primary focus is on children, their right to both parents, and how to enable that for children in Japan with one or more Japanese parent.  Please make sure that your postings are relevant to this topic.
  4. CRN Japan is not a father's rights group, and is not a mother's rights group. So do not expect the same level of awareness or support on some subjects that you might expect on a dedicated men's or dedicated women's group list.   There may also be more controversy on those subjects.  Perhaps you need to join a dedicated men's or dedicated women's group list in addition to this one.
  5. We welcome a variety of opinions, provided they are aired constructively and respectfully.  We are tolerant of different opinions, as long as they address the issues of children's rights in Japan.  Open communication is based on respect. We all share personal information and a successful dialogue depends on maintaining an atmosphere of respect and trust among and between all members.
  6. Respond to issues, not to the authors personally. This way, it will be less emotional. Use civil language and never attack anyone personally by his/her gender, citizenship, etc. Obscenity is absolutely forbidden and will cause you to be moderated in the future, or even banned from the list.

Posting and Content Guidelines

  1. We welcome any content that could be useful to our members. But please stick to CRN Japan related issues.
  2. Please state the subject clearly in the subject line for future reference. Remember to change the subject when necessary to keep in line with the subject of your post.
  3. For the sake of those receiving the digest version of the list, please delete all parts a post you are replying to, except for relatively short quotations.
  4. Please do not copy the email address of any sender in your reply. Postings that do this may be deleted from the archive. (You may include the "name" of the sender, just not the email address.)
  5. You may not post commercial advertising without the consent of a moderator. (This is often referred to as SPAM.) Doing so is cause to ban you from the list.  On the other hand, telling members about relevant free services or giving recommendations of relevant services you have used and found useful is not generally commercial advertising.  If you are personally trying to make money off something, it's probably commercial.  The moderators are pretty reasonable, but the final decision is ours.
  6. Abusive posts will not be tolerated, and are cause to be moderated or banned from the list, at the discretion of the moderators. Both sending abusive email to members off list, and abusive cross posting to other groups or lists will be investigated and are cause for being banned.
  7. Although these issues can be very frustrating, profanity will not be tolerated in postings, and is cause to be moderated or banned from the list, at the discretion of the moderators.

Privacy

  1. If you want to reproduce the content of another member's postings, it is polite to ask permission first. Depending on how much you reproduce and where, you may be violating copyright laws.
  2. You have the right to delete your own message from the  archives. We hope that you wont, but if you must, please send an email to "moderator AT-MARK crnjapan.com" with the date, subject, and any other information necessary to uniquely identify the message.  (Hopefully we will someday have an online interface so you can do it yourself.)

Copyright

  1. A secondary purpose of this list is to generate content for the CRN Japan web site and other CRN Japan materials. So by posting to this mailing list, you grant permission to use your text, anonymously, on the crnjapan.com web site and in other CRN Japan related materials.  You agree to grant a license to copy, modify, redistribute, re-license, and perform your text, under the condition that we modify it so that you, the author, remain anonymous and cannot be reasonably identified.
  2. If we want to associate your name with the text, we must get your explicit permission first. If on the other hand, you wish to be identified as the author of any of your text we have used, we are generally happy to do that. Just ask.  But we wont use any names that could possibly identify you without your permission.
  3. Note that as is the case in most worldwide law and on other mailing lists and discussion groups, you still own the copyright of anything you post to this list.  This section does not transfer ownership of the copyright to your text.

New versions

  1. These guidelines are subject to change. They are sent out to everyone who joins the list.  If the guidelines change, existing members agree to be bound by the new guidelines as soon as a copy of these guidelines has been sent to the mailing list.  It is not necessary to send a copy to each existing member individually.
  2. The current version can be found here. http://www.crnjapan.com/en/ml-guidelines.html  If it has moved, contact the webmaster of www.crnjapan.com to find out where it is.

You Will Use Caution

We believe that this mailing list can be a valuable tool to exchange information. But for your own protection, please remember that anyone could be receiving email from this list. No one verifies the identity of any subscriber.  Anyone could be seeing what you write -- even be your ex-spouse, their lawyer, or whoever is keeping you from seeing your child.   So be careful what you write. (Additional information on computer security can be found on our Computer Security page.)

  1. If you post information that you would prefer that your ex-spouse, their lawyer, or whoever is keeping you from your child did not see, do not use your real name, or any name that could be traced back to you.
  2. Do not post detailed strategies about your case, especially with identifying information. If you would like to get feedback on a strategy, send a private email to "moderator AT-MARK crnjapan.com" and we will post it for you.
  3. If your ex-spouse, their lawyer, or whoever is keeping your from seeing your child knows the email account you are using, pick another. There has been at least one incident of a spouse hiring a computer expert to break into one of the free email systems and getting email to use in divorce and custody proceedings.
  4. Use passwords that are not obvious. Do not use names, addresses, id numbers, or anything that anyone you know might guess.
  5. Please do tell us anything you have found out that could be useful to others.  Again, if the information might identify you, send a private email to "moderator AT-MARK crnjapan.com" and we will put it on the website, written in a way that is anonymous, and inform the discussion group.
