Japanese Translation Plan for crnjapan website

This contains information on pages that are ready to translate.  I am also starting to use it to maintain a "to do" list of modifications I want to make.  I hope that English speakers will someday volunteer to help with these also.

Guidelines for all translators

  1. Please maintain the existing paragraph structure so I can match English and Japanese paragraphs.

  2. We have a small but growing downloadable phrase dictionary.  Please download this dictionary (Excel format)  and use the indicated translations.  If you have an important phrase that is not in this dictionary, please create a new page in the excel spreadsheet and send the new page to me when you are done so I can include it for future translators.

  3. Website translation is a little different than document translation.  One goal is to show up in search engine results as often as possible.  So sometimes, you want to use as many different forms of the same phrase as possible, rather than standardizing on one form thruought.  One example in this website is for Hague.  Some Japanese websites use ハーグ and others use ヘーグ.  We probably need to "usually" use ヘーグ, which seems like it is a more often used version and more phonetically correct.  But make sure that ハーグ is occasionally used also.  So "almost but not quite standardize."   Also, both variants need to be included in the META KEYWORDS tag in the header of the webpage.

Guidelines for Japanese translators

  1. If you ever use names of treaties, I have the relevant ones here:  http://www.crnjapan.com/treaties
  2. When translating a link to another page on the website, check if there is already an existing Japanese page.  If so, please use the same title.  If the existing Japanese title is bad, tell me, and I can change that instead.

  3. When using names of left-behind children or their parents, check these pages.  You might find their name in Japanese already.

    1. http://www.crnjapan.com/familypages/en/

    2. http://www.crnjapan.com/people/ja/

  4. In general, be very careful about where you use Katakana.  I need this to be readable by older people, such as politicians, not just young people with good English like you!  Ask whether there is a traditional Japanese word with the meaning you want.  Most times there is.

  5. Try to use Kanji for all Japanese names.  If you don't know it, ask me.  All foreign names should be in Katakana, not English.

  6. If you use English, you should have a specific reason.  For example,   “Guardian ad Litem” is a complicated legal expression.  A phonetic translation would not be meaningful.  And there might not be a Japanese equivalent.  So it might be OK in this case.

(Update-NN) - Initial translation done, but needs to be updated, and NN percent or more needs to be retranslated.  (Basically, NN will be either 25 meaning not too much, or 75 meaning a lot.)  A description of the change is given in the Page Description area.

Infrastructure - these need to be done before anything else for a new language.  You could just copy these from your browser into a word processor.  But if you can do basic html editing, please ask me for the source copy instead.  That will be easier for us all since I will not likely make any mistakes copying your translation out of the word document and into the html file myself.

REQUIRED - I will put up a new language after getting these required items plus a translation of the front page.

I need the name of the new language in that language itself.
