Write Letters

Here are some places you could write, along with some sample letters.  Let us know if you have other ideas.

These sample letters are available for you to use as you see fit.  Mail, email, fax, whatever.  But we recommend that you take a moment to personalize the letter.  Try to put at least part of it in your own words.

If you are sending a letter, fax or e-mail already prepared for you, take a minute to put the message into your own words or add some of your own thoughts.

In Japan

Especially if you are a Japanese citizen, please write to any of the following:

Outside Japan

  • The UN Commission on Human Rights
    • Mr. Doudou Dienen (Senegal) was appointed by the Commission on Human Rights as Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance in 2002. He made two trips to Japan to investigate racism in 2005 and 2006.  (You can find more information on Mr. Diene and his reports on racism in Japana on Arudou Debito's website.)  His report on racism in Japan is available on the United Nations website.  (Page down to "E/CN.4/2006/16/Add.2, Mission to Japan", and click on "Advance Edited Version E" - The E is a single letter and can be hard to see.) Mr. Diene is also Vice President of the International Council of Social Sciences and Philosophy and is a member of the International Council of Auroville. Between 1993 and 2002, Mr. Diene held the post of Director of the Division of intercultural and interreligious dialogue, UNESCO, during which time he worked on various projects on intercultural dialogue, including the Routes of Faith. He is the author of numerous publications and has chaired and been the distinguished guest on various panels.

Letter to a US national elected politician PDF This has blank spaces to sign, fill in your name and optional address. You have our permission to modify this letter and distribute it by any means or media you wish. These letters are very similar, except the requests for action reflect state, national or president specific wording or actions. For example:

The local letter contains some, but not all national requests, and the phrase "in our state" has been added in some cases also to the request.

The national letter does not contain any state requests, and asks for laws to be enacted to get things accomplished, since this is mostly how they get things done.

The US President letter has requests based on his additional powers to "direct" the State Department.
