Translation

Each of these translators are on this list are here because they have either translated part of this website, or been referred by a left-behind parent who has used them.   If the translator has worked on any of the pages of this website, that is noted.  Barring that, we recommend doing a short test translation before arranging any longer project.  Please negotiate directly on price and other details.

Translators: If you would be willing to do some free English to Japanese translation in return for being listed here as a translator, please contact me at translation8m2Opp [AT ) crnjapan.com any time.  I would also be willing to note your name on individual documents that you translated.

Rates

I prefer to get rates quoted in terms of the source language.  This removes the ambiguity from my price, and removes any incentive for a translator to pad the result.  I think it lets them concentrate on the quality of the translation rather than on the fact that they will make more money if the text is longer.  But not all translators will quote in the source language, although I am not sure why.

Due to the non-profit nature of Japan CRN, I have gotten rates as low as $0.04 per English word for English to Japanese from part time translators.  A likely more typical rate that I have been quoted is 1850 yen per 400 Japanese characters, which for my text worked out to be around $0.09 per English word.  These were for straight text only, with no formatting or other special requests.   I expect that translators with specialized training or experience, such as in the legal field, might charge more also.

Please try to work with one of the translators listed here, since they have done work for this website.  But if they do not work out, you may contact us and we may have names of other people who are not listed here.
