Hague Convention on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition, Enforcement and Co-operation in respect of Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of ChildrenSummaryThis treaty covers a very wide range of civil measures of protection concerning children, from orders concerning parental responsibility and contact to public measures of protection or care, and from matters of representation to the protection of children's property. It reinforces the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, and goes further to establish uniform standards for international custodial, visitation and parental responsibility related disputes based on the habitual residence of the child.
Japan Status
CRN Japan Position and Practical Applications to Children's Rights Cases in JapanGetting Japan to sign this is one of the major goals of CRN Japan. It would provide a visible legal basis for dealing with custody and visitation disputes inside Japan as well as abduction to Japan. It would also likely force changes in Family Law which would be beneficial to children and both parents in general. Source of Treaty
